How AI helped me find my 'tech bro' confidence

The story of how I used ChatGPT to rewrite my pitch deck and how AI has become my favorite confidence coach.

The "tech bro" alter ego that raised my game

When I was fundraising for my startup, I spent a long time working on my pitch deck. I got it to "good", but I'd been through this process before, and I knew that when I leaned into my alter ego -- an insanely confident, overly self-assured, full-of-swagger San Francisco tech bro -- I performed better.

So this time, I tapped ChatGPT for help. I uploaded my deck and gave it this prompt:

"Rewrite this pitch deck in the voice of an insanely confident tech bro who's raised billions of dollars and is barely deigning to speak to investors."

The new version was bold, direct, and unapologetic. It captured the conviction I had in the language investors respond to. And it worked. I got more investor meetings, more second meetings, and I felt way more confident walking into every room.

That was one of the first times I realized how powerful AI can be for confidence.

How AI builds real-world confidence

AI makes it possible to do things you've never known how to do, and to do them well enough to move fast.

Before this wave of generative AI, I couldn't write code. I could design and strategize, but I couldn't build digital products. Tools like Lovable and Claude Code changed that. Now, I can describe what I want in plain English ("build a weekly win tracker that pulls from my meeting notes") and have a working product in hours.

That shift alone made me feel competent, capable, and even unstoppable.

In addition to product building, I'm constantly needing to learn new things: marketing strategy, pricing models, course launches. I can now say, "You're my marketing strategist. Here are my goals -- build me a plan."

Instead of feeling blocked by what I don't know, I can get a smart, confident first draft in minutes and iterate from there.

And it's not just founders. AI gives that same confidence boost to anyone navigating modern work.

Recording my meetings and being able to instantly generate follow-up emails or slide decks makes me feel confident that nothing slips through the cracks. I can respond faster, stay organized, and turn deliverables around without losing momentum.

And when I can create beautiful, on-brand slides myself -- using tools like Canva's AI-powered slide designer -- I don't need to wait on design support or schedule around others. That flexibility gives me more control over my time and the confidence to ship what I want, when I want.

Beyond productivity, AI has become a coach too.

It helps me prep for meetings, reframe tricky conversations, and even pep-talk myself into a stronger mindset. When I need to ask for more money, get buy-in, or plan my week around my goals, I turn to ChatGPT. It doesn't judge, it's always available, and it helps me think clearly and act with confidence.

Try This Yourself

Here are a few ways to start building that same confidence with AI this week:

1. Step into a stronger voice
"Rewrite this email/deck/pitch in the voice of a leader who's clear, confident, and persuasive."

2. Level up your communication
"Edit this to sound polished and executive-ready -- direct, warm, and easy to follow."

3. Prepare for high-stakes moments
"You're my executive coach. I have a big [presentation / conversation / review] coming up. Help me get centered, highlight my key points, and deliver with conviction."

4. Confidence through clarity
"I'm tackling [task or project]. Break down what great looks like and help me make a plan that feels achievable."

5. Design your best week
"Help me visualize my ideal week -- where my time, energy, and priorities are aligned with how I want to lead."

AI Bits & Bobs

Lovable x Shopify: Lovable just launched a Shopify integration, which means you can now spin up a full online store from one prompt. If you've got a craft you've been itching to monetize, it's literally never been easier.

ChatGPT Atlas: OpenAI released Atlas, its new browser. I've just started using it. So far, I love being able to chat directly in the browser about whatever I'm working on -- like writing this newsletter. I'll share more as I go deeper.
